Armed Security Guard Class and Renewal

• Renewal tuition is $85.00 (4-hour class)
• The Tennessee Department of Commerce & Insurance requires Armed Security Guards to renew their license every two years.
• Students must be 21 years old to become an armed guard.
• Student must bring an operational quality handgun and 50 rounds of ammunition. (Factory, new, or reloads are all fine.)
• Instructor will provide shooting targets and eye/ear protection.
• A good attitude with safety in mind.
• NPS will ensure that all training materials are provided.

You will receive:

• Proof of training from NPS Protective Service
• Your color photo from NPS Protective Service

2.   Upload all documents to the new online Tennessee Private Protective Services portal (https://core.tn.gov).Your next step to get the license:
1.   Gather your application and documents.Digital proof of training and color photo from NPS Protective Service (we will email this to you).
Digital Finger Print Receipt.  We scan this for you.
DD214 form if you have ever been in the military.
Court Clerk certified final disposition of any arrests.
Proof of Citizenship documents if you immigrated to the United States (such as a Green Card).
Your credit card or debit card.

• If you have trouble using the online system, or if you don't have a computer/internet, you are welcome to make an appointment with us after you have completed your training, and you have gathered all of the additional items.  Call us at (901) 873-6771 to schedule the appointment.  We will assist you with your online application and document uploading.
• The fee for this personal assistance is $25.
• You must have an e-mail address to register for the State’s new portal and a credit or debit card to pay your state fee.
• Fingerprint scheduling can be done at https://www.identogo.com/ or call  (855) 226-2937 Monday-Friday, 8:30 A.M – 4:30 P.M.(Central) to schedule an appointment.  Agency ORI# TN920120Z

3. Pay the state fees:

• Armed Guard License Initial Fee ($105.00)
• Unarmed Guard State of Tennessee Initial Fee ($70.00)
• Fingerprint fees ($37.15)
• Armed Renewal Fee ($75.00) Fingerprints are not required for renewals.
• Unarmed Renewal Fee ($85.00) Fingerprints are not required for renewals.
